Getting Started: Day One

In order to be able to "follow" our class blog in a Feed Reader, I need to make sure you each have a "gmail" account. By having this Google account, you will be able to do a lot of really incredible things--all for free!

With this account, you will be able to log into our class blog, create your own blog, follow the blogs in a feed reader, and receive class emails.

To get started, please follow the directions below:

• Go to http://www.google.com/
  
• Once the top menu bar comes up, click on "Mail" in the upper right hand corner.
• Then see the link on the page that says "Create One For Free" at the top, center of the page. (Note, that if you already have a gmail account, you CAN use that for this class. If you don't want to use that account, then just create a new one.)
• Please use school appropriate names for your email accounts and record the password information somewhere if you think you will forget it.

You now have a Google account and can follow our class blog in a feed reader!

Welcome to Popular Fiction!

Hi, and welcome! We're going to be doing a lot of work from this online environment, so take a look around to get more familiar with how the blog is laid out.

Please take the form given you in class, and explore what you can do here in the blogger platform. You will be working in small groups to create your own blogs to submit and share your assignments. This semester you will be:

• Working with small groups, trading off your role as a publisher in that group.
• Exploring the novels we read by looking at what has been published on the web about them.
• Finding out more about the authors.
• Writing book reviews.
• Filming a short video blurb (vlog) about a Young Adult novel.
• Responding to the work that other students are doing through class comments.
• Building your own blogs as a group.
• Presenting books you've read, and elements of your blog projects.

Everything we do here will be password protected, so once we get set up, I will be giving you passwords to get in to take a look at one another's blogs.
